Alt Rehse is a village and district of the city of Penzlin on the western shore of Lake Tollense. As a rare example of village architecture during National Socialism, the village ensemble is architecturally and historically unique in Germany. The place is of Slavic origin; after the Germanic residents left at the time of the migration, the medieval tribes of the Redarians and Tollensians from the Wilzen tribal group lived here, who were later also united in the Liutizenbund. The name “Rehse” could be derived from the Old Slavic language and mean “place by the water”.
