Tips

  • AndiT

Cycling is officially permitted here, but especially on sunny days and / or at the weekend, the keel line is heavily frequented by pedestrians and cyclists, so care should be taken there.
The view of the Kiel Fjord and various gastronomic offers invite you to take short breaks.

  • The gantry cranes are a nice background for the expiring ferries and cruise ships, which can be observed from the Kieler promenade

  • If you google the ships and expiration dates you can see the really great crusaders at the right time in front of a great fjord scenery

  • Everywhere thick pots 🛳️ and even more fine dust load☝️
So take a deep breath and think about it ... 🤔

  • The keel line begins at the Seeburg behind the Ostseekai. It has ended in the Kiel-Wik district since 2014. It is lined on the land side by a number of boathouses for rowing clubs, canoeists and sailors, the Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research and the Institute for World Economy. When you hear locals talking about the keel line, you're talking about the city's harbor promenade.
The Kiel Week is a highlight here every year. The annual sailing regatta is embedded in an international folk festival with stalls, stands and live music, including three million visitors.

  • The promenade in Kiel right on the water.

  • Kiel's beautiful promenade with a beautiful view of the Kiel Fjord has been hidden behind construction fences for years, as the bank sheet piling is dilapidated. Construction work is now underway on Kiel's chocolate side. But when we can enjoy a magical view of both the water and the keel line again remains uncertain 😔...
Patience, patience and more patience is required here 😏...

When you hear locals talking about the Kiellinie (formerly Hindenburgufer), you are talking about the city's harbor promenade. Located in the district Düsternbrook, it starts directly behind the Ostseekai and ends at the Blücher bridge, the mooring of the Gorch Fock.
The Kiellinie is lined on the land side by a row of boathouses of rowing clubs, canoeists and sailors and the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences of the University of Kiel. This waterfront promenade is particularly popular for its liveliness and the very good view of the eastern shore. On the other side of the Kiel Fjord you can see from afar the large cranes of the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW), which are considered landmarks Kiel.
Every year is particularly busy here for the Kieler Woche. The annual sailing regatta has meanwhile developed into the world's largest sailing event. But this is not all about sailing: along the keel line there is a big folk festival with stalls, booths and live music that draws in guests from all over the world.kiel-travel.de/Regionales/Kiel-Sehenswuerdigkeiten-Highlights / Kiellinie
