The panoramic winter hiking trail always leads slightly downwards from the Kronberg summit down to Jakobsbad. In between, the fantastic view of the Säntis and the inviting mountain inns along the way entice you.
The Kronberg can be easily reached from Jakobsbad with the cable car. Once at the top, the magnificent view of the Alpstein opens up: the mighty north face of the Säntis range towers before your eyes. In the back lies the Lake Constance region, which is often swallowed up by a sea of fog in winter. The well-prepared winter hiking trail leads on the Kronberg Crete to the summit cross, where there is a great all-round view of the snow-covered hills of the Appenzeller Vorderland. This is also where the exciting fun begins for the tobogganers. The longest toboggan run in Eastern Switzerland runs mostly parallel to the winter hiking trail.
On the wide Kronberg ridge you quickly lose altitude. After a short, steep section you come to the St. Jakob chapel, which is well placed on a small hill. The small chapel, which dates back to the 13th century, owes its patron saint to the nearby Jakobsquelle. We continue to the Scheidegg mountain inn, which is ideal for the next break. After a short stretch of forest you reach the Hütten area with its rolling hills and snow-covered pastures. The well-preserved alpine buildings serve as accommodation for alpine summers. The route gently descends past the Ros property. There you leave the pastures and turn onto the narrow corridor road in the forest. On the last section, the path winds down into the valley and follows the Weissbach with its spectacular ice formations to Jakobsbad.
