In 1774, construction of the new Catholic parish church began under the direction of pastor Franz Bernhard Hoch. The architect and master builder was Johannes Hotter from Großostheim. It was decided to demolish the old Marienkapelle in the village and build the new church in its place. The Marienkapelle was mentioned in the 14th century and rebuilt in 1648. It belonged to the Altmünster monastery in Mainz.
