The De Hoogt country estate was built as a holiday home between 1908-1910 by Joachim Ferdinand de Beaufort. He was one of the eleven children of mayor Johannes Bernardus de Beaufort from Woudenberg, who grew up in Huize Lzicht there. According to the land registry, he bought the land as 'heath and pine forest'. Mr J. F. de Beaufort was a merchant, banker and director of the Nederlandsche Bank in Amsterdam. When the holiday home was completed in 1910, the house was described in the land register as 'house, engine room, barn and heath'. The engine room refers to the building with the pump room for the water supply. In 1925 the house almost doubled. The middle part dates from 1910, but the extensions on both sides and the enlargement at the rear were added in 1925. The tennis court next to the house still exists.
