The first construction after 1634 consisted of a small formal garden with a mansion, stables and barns. With fashionable French classicist gardens as a source of inspiration for the strict and symmetrical layout of lanes and greenery. France as an architectural trendsetter of the 17th century. The founder is Abel Matthijs zn Burgh, son of a brewer. Burgh remained childless and nephew Gerard Schaep became his heir and co-name giver of the estate. In the 18th century, construction of the current Schaep en Burgh began. The mansion, coach house and orangery are symmetrically arranged around the forecourt. The extended dome room at the rear of the main building is striking. With a beautiful view of the Brede Laan and the Lindenkom pond! From 1975 to 2020, the head office of Natuurmonumenten was housed here.

There are beautiful beech and oak avenues on this country estate. Behind the house is a pond with an island.

Beautiful, varied route. Early in the morning, no one to be seen. Dogs on a leash.
