The mill was built in 1745 in Helchteren. In 1853 he was moved to the center of Overpelt. Local farmers used to grind their grain there until the end of the 1950s. In 1962 the municipality bought the mill and had it transferred to the new park Heesakkerheide two years later. Restorations followed in 1964 and 1989. The milling mill is kept in operation by the non-profit association Levende Molens Noord-Limburg.
In 1994 the mill was protected as a monument and the surroundings as a village view.
