At the beginning of the 20th century, this settlement was built in the middle of large cabbage fields (Kohl = Kapps, hence the place name, which is now slowly disappearing because the fields have long since disappeared). The Bochum district is actually called Hordel. The attractive houses, between which there was always a low-rise building for keeping pigs or chickens, were used to recruit workers for the mining industry, primarily from East Prussia or Silesia.
