The Church of Our Lady is the Protestant town church of Witzenhausen and has since been used not only as a place of prayer, but also as a stage for many concerts by numerous ensembles.
From 1232 onwards, the building was first built as a late Romanesque basilica,

later as a Gothic hall church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, i.e. the "dear lady".

The current tower dates back to this first basilica, but has constantly changed its appearance over the centuries.

Whether it's a choir, chamber music, soloists on harp, pan flute or organ - there is always something going on here. Children's and Sunday services also take place here regularly.

The mighty Town Church of Our Lady has been the Protestant church of the town of Witzenhausen since the Reformation. It consists primarily of Romanesque and Gothic elements dating back to the 13th century.
Among the impressive features inside is the imposing tomb of the Baronial von Bodenhausen family.
I found the church open through the beautiful south portal.

The start of construction of today's evangelical parish church as originally a late Romanesque basilica was around the year 1220. Only a few building remains from this phase have been preserved. For example, the eastern bay of the southern aisle with the ribbed vault. In 1232 the city was destroyed in the war with the Archbishops of Mainz, and construction work on the church was interrupted. The consecration of the choir has been handed down for 1404. In contrast to many residential buildings, the church survived the city fire of 1479 unscathed. The church was redesigned several times, e.g. B. the three naves were combined under one roof.
