Jugendburg Ludwigstein

The late medieval Knights' Castle was already very dilapidated at the beginning of the 20th century, but was then rediscovered by the members of the Wandering Bird. The association Wandervogel acquired the castle after the First World War and rebuilt it on its own. Today, the castle complex is a youth hostel, on which of course hikers and cyclists can spend the night - a must for hikers on the Werra-Burgen-Steig.

Ludwigstein, the "Jugendburg", was rediscovered by the Wandervogel, acquired privately and rebuilt as a meeting place. A very interesting destination!

But quite young for a castle, many events take place here, the tower can be visited but nothing for the claustrophobic 🤭.

A very imposing hilltop castle from the 15th century, is now used as a youth hostel.

Good view from the top of the well-preserved hill castle. Overnight stays are also possible.

Nice destination also suitable for a night.

Definitely plan on the tour, the way up there and on to Bad Sooden is beautiful.

In Corona times there is not much going on here and we could enjoy the surrounding area of the castle very quietly

Historic castle with lookout tower, youth hostel and restaurant. Beautiful view all around in the Werratal to the northwest, Wendershausen in the west and in the south to Oberrieden and Hoheberg.

Very good place to stay. Definitely reserve in advance. Best with dinner and breakfast. No guests will be recorded on Friday! (As of July 2018)
