The cross was erected in 1963 to commemorate the Russian prisoners of the last world war. This prison camp was established in early March 1943 and was maintained until September 1944. Two of the prisoners from that time lie in the Nidrum cemetery next to their fellow countrymen who died in the Elsenborn camp (a total of 28 graves). The new cross, erected in 1992 by the Goe "Groupe d´Animation et de Promotion de Sourbrodt", corresponds to the style of the Russian Orthodox crosses.
