The Hermitage of the Angel of Cazorla, popularly known, is one of the most emblematic monuments of the city, since it is located on the road that connects the city to the Sierra foothills along the Cazorla river.

This building has been abandoned in recent years and used for purposes other than worship. Brought up from obscurity by a group of neighbors in a generous and selfless manner, it presents itself in its present form (translated from cazorla.es/turismo/ermita-del-angel-y-san-miguel-arcangel ).

The Hermitage of San Miguel Arcángel, popularly known as Hermitage of the Angel of Cazorla, is one of the most emblematic monuments of the city. It is located on the road that linked the town with the foothills of the mountain range, following the banks of the Cazorla river and a few minutes from the Castillo de la Yedra. This construction has had an interesting history and has been recovered from oblivion by a group of neighbors in a generous and selfless way.

This former hermitage “San MIGUEL Arcangel” was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The name (coming from the Hebrew language) means “Who is like God?” He is often depicted - in paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael and Gabriel, occasionally Uriel is also included - one of the three or four archangels who (according to human understanding) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the saints' calendar is September 29th.
