The bowers, part of the circular wall of the fortified church there, are now partly a museum. The two-country museum tells the story of a region that was divided from 1949 to 1990.

In the Middle Ages, bower houses served as places of refuge from fire and raids, but also as representative, storage and residential buildings. Since Streufdorf is a fortified church, provisions had to be taken care of. Places without a city wall usually had a fortified church, which was usually surrounded by walls. The bower houses were part of the fortifications and, as mentioned above, part of the protective system.
