View of Chioggia

Chioggia, also called "Little Venice," is a city located south of the lagoon. You can take a walk in the middle of the narrow streets and markets. At the end of the Corso, where the vaporettos leave for the islands, there is a beautiful view over the lagoon.

Chioggia is a seaport city built on wooden stilts. It is located south of the Venice Lagoon. Because of its resemblance to the metropolitan city, it has been given the nickname "Little Venice".

Legend has it that Antenor, Aquil and Clodio, who fled from the Trojan War, settled on the upper Adriatic coast. Aquil is said to have founded Aquileia, Antenor Padua and Clodio Clodia. Pliny described the port city of Edron, which was later called Fossa Clodia. Over time, the name Clodia changed to Cluza and Clugia, before finally becoming Chioggia. The first mentions of the city can be found in Byzantine writings from the fifth century.
