Fort 3 of Borsbeek was the first step in the construction of the Great Wall: in 1860-1864 the first fort was chosen for Borsbeek. The fort has more natural stone decorations than the other forts and it is the only fort built according to the original design: it was assumed to be able to fire at the enemy at close range. This soon became obsolete and the design was changed at the other forts.
