Bike Touring Highlight
Notorious for its steep gradient, Middleton Top is a super climb with majestic views at the top. Plus bike hire and a small cafe. It has also part of the Eroica Britannia route for the past few years–imagine that gradient with barely functioning, pre-1979 gearing. At the top of the incline there's the Middleton Top Engine House, as the track used to be the High Peak steam railway.

Beware when descending the High Peak Trail from Middleton Top - there is a sign saying "Cyclists are advised to dismount" but this is generally ignored. Every 20 yards or so there is a step on the surface (for drainage) and some of these are much higher than others. Beware when descending not to hit a big step or you could well be off at speed.
