Almost a year after the catastrophic flood in July 2021, when the bridge over the Lieser to the Pleiner Mühle was washed away, there is now a new crossing again. Even if the hanging construction wobbles a bit, nobody needs to feel unsafe, because stable ropes on the left and right and a wire mesh mesh on both sides ensure the necessary safety. The bridge on the Lieserpfad is also suitable for dogs and prams.

Hooray, what a great feeling to sway across this bridge with the prospect of a stop at the mill. A MUST for all adventure hikers and also for those who just want to stop off, alternatively the mill can only be reached with wet shoes from the Lieser path.

Almost exactly a year after the terrible flood of the century, when the bridge over the Lieser to the Pleiner Mühle was washed away, there is now a new crossing. The suspension bridge is cheaper and more secure against renewed flood damage, but wobbles a bit.

Last year, just after the devastating flood, many people stood on the other side of the loom wanting some refreshment. But it was not possible to cross the water to get to the restaurant run by Diana Kebschull. The old bridge could not withstand the floods and was completely destroyed. That's why there were also attempts at temporary solutions to cross the Lieser after the bridge was destroyed: such as a boat that took visitors across the river. But that didn't work out in the long term either, says the owner of the Pleiner Mühle. The different water levels of the Lieser made crossing it with a boat difficult. For example, the water level is far too low at the moment. Makeshift crossings with pallets didn't bring any lasting improvement either, especially since they had no chance of being officially approved.

And so the idea of creating something permanent was born. The result is a suspension bridge that is somewhat reminiscent of the Geierlay Bridge in the Hunsrück. It's much longer and higher. But if you have any doubts about whether you want to cross this bridge, you can test it in Plein. Because this bridge is not a structure made of stone or concrete, but a hanging structure. And as such, it wobbles when you go from one Lieserufer to the other.

Nonetheless, no one needs to feel unsafe, because stable ropes on the left and right and wire mesh on both sides ensure the necessary safety. The designers have also thought of the four-legged companions. A narrow plate in the middle of the bridge, which is 70 centimeters wide at the bottom and 110 centimeters wide at the top, also offers four-legged friends the chance to reach the other bank of the river. Bicycles or prams can also use the crossing if you are traveling with them on the Lieser path.
