The building, a simple half-timbered building, has a simple portal accessible through a small flight of stairs, which is very primitively made of wood based on the model of Roman portals; Corinthian pilasters flank the semicircular closed doorway, in the lintel is the coat of arms of the builder and above the inscription:

    BY GOD'S GRACE ARNOLD TVMPROBST
    ZV HILDESHEMB CAPITVLARHERR ZV LѶTTIG
    BARON OF HONSBRVCH ZV OISTAM
    MOLL VND BERINGEN

In the arched spandrels the year: 1662

The building was erected in 1662 by the then cathedral provost of Hildesheim, Arnold Freiherr von Hoensbroich, as the official residence of the grand bailiff of the Hildesheim cathedral provost.
The builder's coat of arms is affixed above the door. With the words "by God's grace" to be read there, the lord of the new town and two villages puts himself on the same level as lords of higher rank. On its side facing the Kehrwiederwall, the house uses one of the few remaining pieces of the Neustadt city wall as a wall. The cellar consists of medieval barrel vaults.
The building became the property of the city in 1851 and was sold to a master carpenter named Temme in 1871. From 1979 to 1981 it was thoroughly renovated. Subsequently, the Lower Saxony State Office for Teacher Education and School Development has its headquarters there. As of January 1, 2011, the State Office was merged with the Lower Saxony School Inspectorate to form the Lower Saxony State Institute for School Quality Development (NLQ), whose head office is located in the Grand Bailiwick.

Beautiful half-timbered house at the beginning of the impressive Keßlerstrasse.
