In 1886 major military maneuvers took place in the Bruneck area. The "Kaiserwarte" was built on the Kühbergl so that Emperor Franz Joseph could observe the movements of his troops from here. The control room was intact until the Second World War. The monument at the top of the mountain commemorates this.

Hiking

The Kaiserwarte is the historical name for an observation tower and the hill (Kühbergl) above Bruneck, which was named after the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. Emperor Franz Joseph used the tower to observe artillery movements during military maneuvers in 1886, and even after the maneuvers, the tower served as a popular tourist destination for a long time. The original wooden tower was demolished in the 1950s due to damage and for safety reasons; a small stone column now stands in its place.
