The stumbling block commemorates the exclusively Jewish prisoners in the forced labor camp on Brüllstrasse, a satellite camp of the Buchenwald concentration camp. The 2,000 forced laborers were employed by the Bochum Association in armaments production during World War II. They worked 12 hours a day without protective clothing and with poor nutrition.
The stumbling block was installed on the initiative of the VVN-BdA (Association of Victims of the Nazi Regime - Association of Antifascists).
