Langenschwarz, located in Kiebitzgrund, is a district of the market town of Burghaun.
Together with Grossenmoor, Hechelmannskirchen and Schlotzau, Langenschwarz belongs to the so-called Kiebitzgrund. As the northwestern end of the market town of Burghaun, it also forms the border between the Fulda district, the Vogelsberg district and the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district. Thus, the neighboring towns of Sandlofs and Unterschwarz are in the Vogelsberg district and Wehrda in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district. The Schwarzbach flows through the village, a ten-kilometer-long tributary to the right of the Fulda, into which it flows in Unterschwarz.
The founding and emergence of the settlement "Langenschwarz" is closely related to the deed of donation of Uualto from 801 and the "suuarzahafurt" mentioned therein. Several indications suggest that the area of today's Kiebitzgunde was already cleared and settled around 800. Over the centuries, there have been several spellings and similar-sounding terms for the place name: around 800/900 it was “Suarzaha”, around 1200 “Schwarza”, around 1485 “Swartz”, around 1494 “Swartze”, um Reported in 1498 by "Altenschwarz" and then by "Schwarz". Today's place name "Langenschwarz" is first found in 1617. The first dwellings and stables were presumably built directly on the banks of the Schwarzbach. Since the bottom of the valley was narrow, the settlement stretched out along the Schwarzbach stream, hence Langenschwarz.
