The Wicklow Way is on the one side a good trail for beginners, it is well marked and the amount of climbs is doable. On the other side you will need to be well prepared as I mean you need to make sure you pack the right gear. There are barely stays at the Wicklow Way and thereby only a few pubs. So sleeping gear will be necessary, also cooking gear, food for some days and a water filter.

Remark that the weather can change very rapidly and that the sources of water are limited!

Also wildcamping in the region of Glendalough is not allowed, so make sure you have a booking if you want to spend the night there.

My favourite camping spot was at the river Watergates. It's located around 3 km from the youth hostel (which is closed right now). Beautiful view, source of water and sheeps all around!

The Wicklow Way, crafted by the legendary J. B. Malone, is a trail that unveils the majestic beauty of the Wicklow Mountains. A true masterpiece of hiking routes, it guides you through diverse landscapes of rolling hills, ancient forests, and serene lakes. As you follow in Malone's footsteps, you'll be captivated by the ever-changing vistas that unfold before you. The trail is well-maintained and offers a range of difficulties.
