There was probably a church in Gereonsweiler as early as the 10th century. This church was first mentioned in a document in 1324. The church was a hall church. The church was enlarged in the 16th or 17th century. In the 1880s the building was demolished because it had become too small. As a replacement, a new church was built around 1886 according to plans by the architect Theodor Kremer. This place of worship was completely destroyed during World War II. In 1954 a new church was built according to the plans of the Düsseldorf architect Josef Lehmbrock.
