    Bad Mergentheim (in the regional dialect Märchedol) is a town on the Tauber in the Franconian northeast of Baden-Wurttemberg, about 35 km southwest of Würzburg and 56 km northeast of Heilbronn. Before the formation of the country Baden-Wuerttemberg it was the most northern city of Wuerttemberg. Today it is the largest city in the Main-Tauber-Kreis and a center of the Heilbronn-Franken region.Bad Mergentheim was first mentioned in 1058 and was from 1526 to 1809 the official residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. Since 1926, the city has been called Bad. since April 1, 1975, it is the county seat.
