The Catholic Church of St. Nicholas is a cultural monument and is located on Schanzstrasse and Adenauerplatz in the city of Friedrichshafen. Due to its proximity to Lake Constance, its bell tower is a landmark of the city.
In 1293 and in a document dated May 26, 1325, St. Nicholas of Myra chapel in the then town of Buchhorn in the jurisdiction of the Hofen monastery. The citizens of Buchhorn expanded the chapel into a Gothic church in 1437 and erected the tower that can still be seen today. After the Hofen monastery was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, the citizens made the Nikolauskirche their parish church.
