The Koïfhus also called the old customs house used to be one of the most important buildings in the old center. The Koifhus is located at the intersection of the Grand'Rue and the Rue des Marchands, which used to be the two main streets of Colmar. The building has had a dual function for centuries. For example, in one part the confiscated taxes were kept and other parts of the customs office served as a meeting room for various local meetings. After the building lost its original function, Koifhus has served as a theater, a Catholic boys' school and as the chamber of commerce. At the end of the nineteenth century, the building was so accommodated that the municipality wanted to demolish the building, fortunately these plans were changed and the building was completely restored. The beautiful glazed tiles on the roof of the building were added during this restoration. Nowadays events and activities are regularly organized in the Koifhus.
