HISTORY: The buildings of the current "Cantine des Italiens" were built in 1946 following the instructions of the managers of the Boël factories, in order to accommodate the workers recruited in Italy to work in these factories. These workers often came from the north of the Italian peninsula. In 1947, 223 people “lived” along the Canal du Center (today the “historic” canal) and the Boël factories, in four roughly constructed blocks each comprising eight 30 m2 dwellings and surrounding a canteen.
