The village did not escape the German invasion of 1914, from where the offensive was launched from Mussy-la-ville. German troops (the 120, 123, 124 and 127RI), partly commanded by Corporal Erwin Rommel (the future famous German marshal, having fought in the village and its surroundings before his unit was sent to Italy) fight relentless and manage to take the village from the hands of the French, commanded by Commander Laplace, following a long street and barn fight. The fighting is then pushed out of the village, which does not prevent the Germans from setting fire to several streets. Corporal Rommel having fought relentlessly for several days, will faint from fatigue in the wood of the "Mas" and will be brought back to the village by his men, to lodge and rest. The church and the castle will have served as hospitals during the fighting.

Bleid is a village in the municipality of Virton, located at the intersection of the Arlon - Virton road and the Aubange - Saint-Mard road.

We cite Bleid in 1220 in the form of Belers, but already in Roman times the place was fortified to repel barbarian invasions.

Agricultural land in particular was valued for its yield. Gallo-Roman remains have also been found there, near the Bois du Mas.

The inhabitants are called the Panîs (baskets) because wicker baskets were made there in the past. Enthusiasts still maintain the tradition.

The Château de Bleid was inhabited by the famous writer Adrien de Prémorel (1889 - 1968). He was passionate about the life of forest and land animals.

A monument is dedicated to him in the surrounding forest.
