It was a municipality in its own right before the merger of the municipalities in 1977.
It is home to the Montauban Archaeological Park and Lapidary Museum: the Montauban site has been classified as a major heritage site in Wallonia.
The village is bordered to the northwest by national road 87 linking the French border to Lamorteau and Parette (Attert), near the Luxembourg border.
