The ruins of the former Kouty water fortress near Votic have been protected as a cultural monument since 1958. The water fortress was once known as Steinburg.
The fortress dates from the mid-14th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1368. The first and last known owner of the building was Jarohněv Vejhák from Křečovice. He owned it from the late 14th century and his descendants lived there until the late 16th century.

In 1606 the Kouty Fortress was attached to the town of Smilkov and was already abandoned in the mid-17th century. In 1813 it was officially listed as a ruin.

The remains of a rectangular building measuring around 30 x 20 meters are currently located in these places on the edge of the city pond.
