Thomas converter from Hörder Boilermakers from 1954. In use in the Thomas steel works in Phoenix-Ost until 1964. The Thomas pear is 7 meters high and weighs 64 tons.
    Thomas method:
The Thomas process or Thomas-Gilchrist process in its entirety refers to a process for producing steel and was named after the British metallurgists Sidney Thomas (1850-1885) and Percy Carlyle Gilchrist (1851-1935). The steel created in this way is called Thomas steel.
The Thomas process is a so-called blowing or air refining process in which air is blown into the molten pig iron through bottom nozzles of the converter (steel production), the Thomas bulb. The oxidation process, which reduces the carbon content, provided enough heat in this process to keep the steel liquid, so external heat supply was not necessary in the converters.
The Thomas pear was lined with a basic mixture of dolomite stone or dolomite-tar and was particularly suitable for processing phosphorus-rich iron.

This island in Lake Phoenix is a good place to take a break and take a look at the giant "egg" used in steel production, the Thomas Converter. The information on forced labor in the Phoenixwerk, which is also available, is also recommended
