Rattelsdorf was called a “market” for the first time on April 29, 1667, which took place at this location.
Before 1752 there was a village pond on this site, the water from which was available in the event of a fire.
In 1752, Pastor Christoph Jäger acquired a leftover stone from the pier in Bamberg and had Ferdinand Tietz use it to make this beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary. At the same time, the fire pond was dried out and compacted. The statue of the Virgin Mary was erected here in 1764 and inaugurated in 1765.
During the last redesign in the 1970s, the frame of the Virgin Mary statue was enlarged, the baroque planting was renewed at the end of the 1990s and in 2001 the Virgin Mary statue was equipped in its original state with a cross lance and scepter and illuminated at night with floor spotlights.
Since 2006, the statue of the Virgin Mary has been covered with a glass house and thus protected from weathering.

In my opinion, the glass casing obstructs the view of the statue and is rather irritating. The sandstone is probably just too porous, and they don't want to have to renovate it again in a few years. I think a roof without side walls, in the pavilion style, would be more advantageous.
