The Düssel is an approximately 40 kilometers long right tributary of the Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia. It rises in Wülfrath-Blomrath on the city limits of Velbert-Neviges in the Mettmann district. After running through the cities of Wülfrath, Wuppertal, Mettmann, Haan and Erkrath, it flows into the Rhine with four arms in the city of Düsseldorf. The Düssel is the namesake for the Wülfrath district of Düssel and the Düssel house there, the city of Düsseldorf and its district of Düsseltal.

Into the dark, gloomy, depressing valley of the Düssel?
We may still discover some beautiful things, but nowhere in the area do hikers encounter a similar weather and storm wasteland, which seems to have assumed ever greater proportions, especially in recent years.
Entire sections of the little river are covered on the west-facing valley section between Winkelsmühle, Bracken, Frenzhäuschen and further by fallen trees, many of them overgrown with ivy up to the peaks.
