The small town of Kunštát can be found on the Hornosvratek hills, about 10 km north of the district town of Blansko. The dominant monument is the local castle, originally the ancestral castle of the lords of Kunštát, whose origins date back to the 13th century. It is from this line that the "Hussite" king Jiřík comes, whose great-grandfather was Boček I. of Kunštát (+1373). The city of Kunštát is so proud to support Jiří. The local square bears his name and in the lower part we can also find his statue. It dates from 1885 and depicts the crowned monarch in a standing position, holding a document in his right hand, with his left on a sword. Jiřík from Kunštát and Poděbrady was born on April 23, 1420. However, it is not known exactly where - it happened either in Poděbrady or Bouzów. Historians do not rule out Hořovice, Litice and even the local Kunštát. This question is still not resolved. The monarch died on March 22, 1471 in Prague. His father was the Hussite governor Viktorin of Poděbrady (+1427), his mother is unknown. In 1434, as a fourteen-year-old, he probably took part in the Battle of Lipan on the side of moderate Kalisz and Catholics, which influenced his later career and life. The culmination of everything was his election as king on May 7, 1458, when he replaced the deceased king Ladislav Pohrobek.
