Lautenbach is idyllically situated in a side valley of the Murg Valley. There's a very nice bike path connecting the Murg Valley, and the road to Loffenau is also quiet.

Lautenbach is located at the entrance to the Rench Valley in the northern Black Forest. More than two thirds of the municipal area consists of forests. The municipality borders on Kappelrodeck, Ottenhöfen, Durbach, the town of Oppenau and the town of Oberkirch. The Lautenbach estate was mentioned in a document from the Allerheiligen monastery in 1233, while other estates in the lower Rench valley were mentioned as early as the 10th century. However, no closed settlement developed, but Lautenbach remained a collection of scattered hamlets and farmsteads for centuries.
