Until 1965, Karl Wenholt was head of the building authority for coastal protection and land reclamation in the north. In this function he was responsible for land reclamation at the Leybucht in what was then the district of Norden. He then held the honorary post of dike judge (board member) at Deichacht Norden until his death.
