Economic problems that began in 1926 demoted this railway line to a branch line in 1941 when the trains towards Magdeburg no longer ran through the Schuntertal but via Weddel.
After the expansion of the ICE route in 1998, Weddler Loop to Wolfsburg, this route was finally shut down.
Here the Green Schuntertalband was laid out over a stretch of almost 11 kilometers. A unique biotope was created along the railway line.
