The Museum Schloss Moyland on the Lower Rhine is not only a museum of modern and contemporary art, but also an international research center of Joseph Beuys, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. The castle, whose history goes back to the beginning of the 14th century, offers the museum an imposing backdrop.
Formerly a medieval moated castle, Moyland Castle was given its present appearance in the 19th century by the Cologne Cathedral architect Ernst Friedrich Zwirner, who rebuilt the castle in neo-Gothic style. After being severely damaged during the Second World War, it only received extensive restoration after the founding of Museum Moyland Foundation, and can thus serve today's purpose.Baroque garden
The garden was restored to its traditional state. Between the Baroque elements such as alleys and ditches, visitors will also find a sculpture park and a herb garden. There are also events such as the annual Kräutergartenfest and the Kunsthandwerker Christmas Market.
Museum guests can look forward to a multi-facetted art collection at the Museum Schloss Moyland. The collection includes currents of visual and applied art since the 19th century. The genre focuses are the graphic collection as well as the collection of paintings, sculptures and objects.
