The Dhrontalsperre in the valley of the Little Dhron in Heidenburg and Leiwen in Rhineland-Palatinate was built in 1911 to 1913 for the production of electricity from the Stadtwerke Trier. The water was led to the Moselle near Leiwen to generate electricity from hydropower in turbines. 1954/1956 was an extension to the pumped storage plant (Dhron power plant Leiwen), which pumps water at night and generates electricity during the day. The pump was dismantled in 1995, since then only the natural feed of the small Dhron is used as running water. The operator is RWE Power AG.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/DhrontalsperreIdeal for relaxing, taking a break or geocaching ;-)
500m further direction Heidenburg is a parking lot.

the talsperre was almost dry when we came here. Water was pumped out through pipes to carry enough water to the Moselle.
