Monastery of the Passion of Christ Jakobsbad
As early as 1676, Hans Gmünder left a legacy to a chapel in Stechlenegg, where the monastery stands today. The name Passion of Christ first appears in 1687. After the death of Captain Uli Neff, the chapel passed to his son. The owners had the chapel built out of gratitude for the help they received years ago in a difficult matter. On July 31, 1848, the first Holy Mass was celebrated in the renovated chapel.
On April 3, 1851, Maria Rosa Bättig, together with some of her fellow sisters, was able to purchase the "Sägenweidli" for their future monastery foundation. The then pastor of Gonten had the Passion of Christ Chapel, which was visited by pilgrims, renovated again and had an altar installed. The foundation stone for the monastery was laid on March 18, 1853. On July 14, the monastery church was erected and blessed in 1854. In 1891, the monastery church was renovated. Later, the painter Johannes Hugentobler rebuilt a turret with the old bell. Johann Thürlemann rebuilt the monastery church in 1889-1891, retaining the previous floor plan. The interior is neo-Gothic. The Holy Blood Chapel was built between 1925 and 1930 and designed by Johannes Hugentobler. In 1937, the church received a new chime with four bells. In 1981/82, the church was restored by Hans Morant under the supervision of the Federal Commission for Monument Preservation.

A little further up in the southern forest there is a small grotto with a quiet hermitage; a detour is definitely worth it.

If you walk up the hill you come to a small grotto.
