Titled Dark Sky Park, Lauwersmeer National Park is one of the darkest places on earth. Here you can experience nature in complete darkness. There are only 41 of these parks in the world, and in this way the darkness is maintained so that nature is not disturbed. Many animals depend on the darkness that should normally exist at night. Truly dark places are becoming increasingly rare due to increasing nighttime lighting in the West.
A perfect reason to visit Dark Sky Park Lauwersmeer is the wonderfully clear starry sky. Since there is no light from the ground and the Wadden area is the place with the least light pollution in all of Holland, the stars are particularly easy to see here. On some days you can even admire the northern lights.
