The Blue Castle was built in three construction phases in 1676, 1711-18 and 1756-58 by the barons and later counts of Seckendorff-Aberdar.
In 1745 the barons built the Red Castle.
The Lords of Seckendorff, a widespread aristocratic family, have always been high-ranking officials and ministers to the margraves and respective governments.
Its origins go back to the small town of Seckendorf near Cadolzburg in 1254.

As early as the Middle Ages, there was a fortified complex surrounded by a moat at the site of today's castle complex. The Barons of Seckendorff-Gutend used the foundations of the previous building to build the Red Castle next to the Blue Castle in 1745.

The two late Baroque palaces are named after the predominant colors of their facade design.
