There are 39 castles, fortresses and ruins in the Allgäu! One of them, supposedly the most beautiful, is Falkenstein Ruin, perched at around 1,250 meters near Pfronten. Here from the bike path it looks especially majestic, if you look up from below. If you ever feel like following in the footsteps of the former lord of the castle, King Ludwig, right next to the castle is the Burghotel Falkenstein, where you can stay overnight.

A great sight, a wonderful view. The Vilstal cycle path is incredibly beautiful.
The castle sits high above the valley, a very beautiful sight. The original castle was built in the 13th century and expanded several times. King Ludwig II of Bavaria planned another magnificent castle here, similar to Neuschwanstein, but it never got beyond the planning phase.
