The Dieksee is 386 hectares in size. The Schwentine flows through it. This waterway connects it to the other lakes in the Holstein lake district (small and large Eutin lakes, the Kellersee, the large and small Plöner lakes and the Ukleisee).
Like the whole of Holstein Switzerland, the Dieksee was formed during the last ice age. Dead ice had formed the lake bed.
Excursion boats (5-lake trip) connect the towns of Malente-Gremsmühlen, Niederkleveez and Timmdorf.
It can be circumnavigated on a circular route of around 14 kilometers on foot or by bike.
