The Jarmshagen chapel is a 19th-century chapel in the Jarmshagen district of the Wackerow municipality.

The rectangular chapel was built around 1800 in place of an older brick framework building. The chapel has a hipped gable roof on the east side. A gable rider is placed on the west side. The high windows on the long sides are coupled.

The weather vane dates from the 1800s.

The chapel has a new, flat wooden ceiling. The altar barrier dates from 1644 and has balusters that have been sawn out. The 17th-century stalls were reused during a 1999 restoration.

The lectern was made in the first half of the 19th century. A panel painting with the Last Supper and the Crucifixion dates from around 1650, and two other paintings with evangelists from the 17th century.

The Protestant parish of Neuenkirchen and Gristow has belonged to the priory of Demmin in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in northern Germany since 2012. It previously belonged to the Greifswald church district of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church.

The chapel is under serious threat as rot and fungal attack have severely damaged the wood.

Supplement: The chapel is much older, about 600 years old, because:

[There] are only two medieval chapels in Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania where the half-timbered construction has remained visible from the outside to this day. In Mecklenburg this is the chapel of Consrade south of Schwerin (erected in 1470) and in Western Pomerania the chapel of Jarmshagen, which is half a century older. Until now, it was assumed that the Jarmshäger chapel was built around 1800 in place of an earlier building. According to current investigations by the building historian Torsten Rütz, however, it can look back on 600 years of building history.

The architectural history investigation of the chapel was able to work out a total of three construction phases. A so-called dendrochronological examination makes it possible to determine the felling dates of the wood used. This investigation revealed that three of the chapel's ceiling beams date back to medieval times. The youngest of the three oak trees was felled in the winter of 1419/20, and since the wood was mostly processed while it was still fresh, the chapel could have been built in 1420 or shortly thereafter.

The year 1800 can be read on the weather vane above the bell hood. The renovation and expansion work on the chapel should have been completed this year.

The village of Jarmshagen was first mentioned in 1280 as "Germarshagen" and was initially owned by the Cistercian monastery of Eldena. In the middle of the 14th century, the city of Greifswald was able to purchase the site from the monastery. It was located at the inflow of the Ryck into the dammed Boltenhäger pond, which reached up to the old town of Greifswald and was therefore of particular interest to the city. The city of Greifswald later became patron of the small half-timbered chapel in the village.
