Sufers is considered the oldest village in the Rhine Forest because the Romans settled here before the Walsers. The Church of St. Salvator could therefore have been the oldest church in the Rheinwald. From an ecclesiastical point of view, Sufers belonged to the parish of S.Martin in Zillis until 1527. A parish community with Splügen and Medels was then established, and later a separate parish. The Reformation was probably carried out around 1530.
