When Joseph von Eichendorff studied law in Heidelberg, he met various other students who also came to Heidelberg not only because of their studies, but also and above all by the romantic atmosphere that prevailed in the city. Within the circles of friends that were created in this way, people inspired each other to engage in literary activity, the products of which constitute Heidelberg Romanticism. Eichendorff belonged to the Eleusian League, a Heidelberg poets' circle within the Romantic movement.
