This portion of the hiking trail follows the route of the old Verdon canal, which was in service from 1875 to the 1980s. The canal was used at the time to carry water to the villages, as well as to the farming lands. Today, the path has been laid out and allows you to hike as close as possible to the Verdon. It is a truly magnificent passage, where you move along the side of cliffs.

Wikipedia: "The Canal du Verdon is a former channel for the supply of drinking water in Provence in the south of France, and since its inauguration in 1875 and its closure in the 1970s, it has brought water from the Verdon to the city of Aix-en-Provence the newer Canal de Provence. "
