At 72 meters, it has the tallest church tower in the Oldenburger Münsterland. The three-aisled neo-Gothic church was built between 1875 and 1878 by the Münster architect August Hanemann and consecrated in 1884.[1]
The church is under the patronage of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The patronal feast is celebrated on November 25th. St. Catharina was first mentioned as patron in 1396. The von Galen family had had the right of patronage since the 17th century and only relinquished it in 1956.
