In 1951 a chapel construction association was founded with the aim of building a church for the Brockdorf farming community between Lohne and Dinklage.

Christoph Bernhard von Galen donated the building plot on behalf of his underage daughter Hedwig, the owner of the Querlenburg estate in the farming community. At Hedwig's request, St. Maria Goretti designated as patron saint. On October 6, 1953 the brick chapel was consecrated in a modern style and a day later the relics of St. Maria Goretti and St. Viktorianus was brought into the church in a solemn procession and embedded in the stone at the altar consecration.
